An ACDelco GM Original Equipment Radiator Cap is a spring loaded cap that seals the radiator filler neck or surge tank, and is a GM-recommended replacement for your vehicles original component. It maintains pressure on the cooling system while the engine is operating, which raises the boiling point of the engine coolant. It also replenishes the system with coolant from the expansion tank (if equipped) when the engine cools off. - Maintain proper coolant levels and check level monthly (Note: Never attempt to remove a radiator cap while the engine is hot. Serious injury could result).
- – Evaluate radiator and radiator cap for leaks, corrosion, or a worn cap gasket.
- – Examine hoses every 12 months. Look for leaks, cracks or rot. Replace when showing signs of wear.
- – Have cooling system inspected immediately if instrument panel-mounted temperature gauge indicates engine overheating.
- – Inspect engine belts for cracks or missing sections; check belt tension.
- – Periodically, remove bugs, leaves and other debris from the front of the radiator. They can block airflow and substantially reduce cooling efficiency.
- – Replace coolant with a mixture of antifreeze and water according to the vehicle manufacturer's recommendations.
- – Tighten any loose clamps. Always replace clamps when replacing hoses.
